Visit St. Louis, Missouri

St. Louis, Missouri is a large city that lies on the banks of the Mississippi River. St. Louis is full of adventure and entertainment. It is an old city with a new way of looking at living life in the city. St. Louis and the people that live there come from a rich past of French and German influences. There is also a large influence on architecture because it was once a city full of Victorian influence and lifestyle.



St. Louis has hosted many major events in the past, including the 1904 World’s Fair and the 1904 Olympics Games, the first ones that were ever held in this country. And from its manufacturing and industrial past, the people of St. Louis have turned the city around into the 21st century with major industries going into research in sciences such as biotechnology and medicine.  

If you want to begin exploring the Gateway City, there are plenty of sights to see, beginning with the Gateway arch. This is one of the major landmarks in the city that symbolizes the gateway from the east to the west. St. Louis has been the gateway to the west since the times of the Oregon Trail. This is where many wagon trains would stop with supplies before heading out west.  

St. Louis is also known as the mound city because of the Native American mounds that were common throughout the city limits. Theses were where Native Americans would bury their ancestors. Most of the mounds in St. Louis were leveled to continue to provide for city growth.  

For sports fans, you cannot miss a St. Louis Cardinals game. You will have a great summer afternoon spent at the baseball field and then take the evening off to relax, unwind, and go to one of the great St. Louis restaurants. After dinner, many people love to enjoy the district known as Laclede’s Landing located conveniently on the Mississippi waterfront in St. Louis. This is where some of the best restaurants and nightclubs in the city are located. You can easily walk from one nightclub to the other in order to check out all of the entertainment available.  

During the day, you will have plenty of time to see all of those famous St. Louis sights. Take a stroll through St. Louis Union Station, a national historic landmark. You will also want to check out the many museums that St. Louis had to offer. Some of the most famous museums are the St. Louis Art Museum (located in Forest Park), the City Museum, and the Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts. If you want to learn about the history of the state, the Missouri History Museum is a must see. There are many exhibits that profile the 1904 world’s fair as well as the Louisiana Purchase and the adventures of Lewis and Clark.  

If you are looking for a great day outdoors and want to enjoy some exotic animals, you will want to visit the Saint Louis Zoological Park. It is one of the oldest zoos in the country, and is the largest free admission zoo. Millions of people visit this zoo each year, making it the most visited zoo in the United States.  

You can also find a lot of entertainment and history in places that are located a little bit outside of the city. There are quite a few specialty museums that are just outside of the city limits, or you can visit the farm where you can see how a real farm works. It is a great experience if you have never been on a farm before.  

While you are in St. Louis, you will want to see and do it all. There are great ways to get around the city for relatively little cost, including taxis, buses, and trains to get around the city as well as the region. Make St. Louis the next destination for your summer vacation.
