Travel to Minneapolis, St. Paul Minnesota

The Minneapolis-St. Paul area is one of the most populous metropolitan areas in the state of Minnesota. The whole area contains 188 cities. This area was created because of the close proximity between the two cities that sit across from each other on the Minnesota, Mississippi, and St. Croix rivers. It lives up to its nickname of the Twin Cities and it also contains the state capital, St. Paul, within its limits.

Although the area is home to more than 3.5 million people, the residents of these towns try to make sure that everyone realizes that these are two separate cities with two different personalities. Minneapolis is made up of a grid layout that caters to wide boulevards and a modern architecture for its downtown buildings. It was also nicknamed the first city in the American West. St. Paul is like the fussy twin with narrow streets in irregular patterns and neighborhoods that like to stick together. There is a lot of Victorian architecture that is well preserved throughout St. Paul and has many of its roots in Scandinavian and Irish culture.

The Upper Midwest gives the title for the capital of arts to the twin cities. The cities lead among other Midwest towns that are full of arts, entertainment, and cultural heritage. Many people who are residents of the twin cities enjoy attending theater, comedy, and musical events. Nothing can stop the residents of the twin cities—not even the cold weather. Minneapolis-St. Paul residents will go out and see a great play, take in a nice dinner, and go the bar to have fun for the rest of the night.

The reason for all the attendance at the entertainment venues is also due to the large number of colleges and universities that are in the area. Many young people call the twin cities their home, even if it is only nine months out of the year.

What the twin cities and more broadly the state of Minnesota, can claim is the production of great musicians. Some of the most notable musicians that come from the area or state are the Andrews Sisters, Bob Dylan, Soul Asylum, Prince, and Babes in Toyland. Minneapolis was at one time a great center for the Midwestern music scene, giving the newborn style of punk some tender love and care. There are still many contemporary artists that contribute to the local music scene. Any visitor can find some great music venues to take in a variety of different kinds of music.

Comedy is another major outlet for young artists that is favored by the residents of the twin cities. Many comedians found success at some of the comedy clubs in town, while others found that writing for television and movies was more their style.

If you want to escapes from being cooped up indoors all winter, come to the twin cities in the summer and explore the great outdoors. There are quite a few lakes in the region where you can fish, swim, boat and use for general recreation. The cities also boast an extensive park system that is enjoyed by residents and visitors alike. A great event that is held annually is the Great River Energy bicycle festival. You can also find yourself having a lot of fun if you take part in such activities common to the area. You can easily find places to ice fish, snowmobile, hunt, and ride an ATV. There are a lot places that you can rent equipment from, or you can bring your own. This is great for families that want to explore the outdoors by day and take in some of the great venues that Minneapolis-St. Paul has to offer in the evening. But no matter when you come to visit the Twin Cities, you will be pleasantly surprised at how much fun you can have in the heart of the Midwest.
