Visit Indianapolis, Indiana
Indianapolis,
the state capital of Indiana, is quickly becoming famous for many of
the sports events that the city hosts and will be hosting in the
future. Recently, Indianapolis was awarded the 2012 Superbowl. And
Indianapolis is not new to major sporting events. For the past 92
years, Indianapolis has been the home of the Indianapolis 500 every
Memorial Day weekend. They have also hosted many other sporting
events including the NCAA. If you want to catch a sporting event any
time in the summer, you can come and see the Indians baseball team
play a great game at
Victory Field. With all of these great
activities, it's no wonder people love to visit Indianapolis so
much.
If you aren't into sports, Indianapolis still has a lot to offer visitors. If you want to spend a great day out and about in the city, all you have to do is take a stroll along the canal. There are many places along the canal that will cater to the interests of those who love museums, art, and fun in the sun. You can take a paddle boat for a drive down the canal, or you can visit the Indianapolis Museum of Art (IMA). The IMA has many exhibits that are permanent as well as traveling that feature not only local and regional artists, but national and international artists as well.
If you want to take a little sightseeing tour throughout the city, you will be pleased to know that Indianapolis is second in the country to have the most monuments within the city limits. If you start downtown at the circle and work your way out, you can hit all of the best monuments in a single day. Then, you will have time at night to relax and unwind at some of Indianapolis' greatest restaurants and bars. There are many of these that are located right off the circle and near some of the best hotels that you can stay at while you are visiting in Indianapolis.
With more than 780,000 people living in Indianapolis, it may seem smaller than most U.S. capital cities, but it is actually the thirteenth largest city in the country. What gives it that small, hometown feel is the people and the way they treat everyone just like their neighbors. Everyone will make you feel at home, no matter where you are visiting in the city.
If you like the outdoors, you will be able to find some great activities in the city. You can visit the Indianapolis Zoo and the White River Gardens. The Indianapolis Zoo is currently the home of two visiting Koalas. The White River Gardens is a beautiful place where you can admire thousands of plant species right along with some of the most beautiful butterflies you will ever see.
Another great outdoor adventure is riding a bicycle or taking a stroll down the Monon Trail. The Monon Trail is large and winds its way throughout the city. Many people use this on a daily basis to exercise, hang out with the family, or even travel to work.
Even in the winter, Indianapolis is a spectacular sight. Monument Circle is decorated with lights during the Christmas season and is decorated to look like a tree. Most locals treat the lighting of the Circle just like they treat the lighting of the tree in Rockefeller Center in New York City. There is also a lot of sledding down nearby hills and general fun frolicking in the snow. Whether you come for business or pleasure, you will have tons to explore in Indianapolis. It is also a great vacation destination for those who would like to explore the Midwest as well as those who already live in the Midwest but want to see what all the fuss is about. Indianapolis is a fast growing city and takes pride in being a great Midwestern city.
